Description

The RYA Safe & Fun online course is a safeguarding awareness module for anyone working with children or vulnerable adults in an RYA club or training centre. It introduces the key principles of good safeguarding practice so you can help create a safe, supportive environment afloat and ashore.
This course is completed entirely online and is roughly equivalent to around three hours of classroom training, but you can work through it at your own pace and in short sessions if you prefer.
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for:

Newly qualifying RYA Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructors and Senior Instructors

Level 2 Racing Coaches and other RYA instructors

Volunteers and staff at RYA recognised training centres and affiliated clubs who work with young people or vulnerable adults
Mandatory requirement:
RYA Safe & Fun is required before attending many RYA instructor and racing coach training courses.
What you’ll learn
By the end of the course you will:

Understand the basic principles of safeguarding in an RYA environment

Recognise possible signs of abuse or inappropriate behaviour

Know how to respond appropriately if you have a concern

Know who to speak to and how to report concerns within a club or training centre

Feel more confident about your responsibilities as an instructor, coach or volunteer
The course uses realistic club-based scenarios to show how safeguarding issues might arise in practice and how they should be handled.

Pre-requisites & age

Required experience: None – no prior safeguarding knowledge needed

Minimum age: 16 years
Certification
On successful completion of the online assessment, you’ll receive an RYA Safe & Fun course completion certificate. Your training record can then be used as evidence that you have met this safeguarding requirement for instructor and coach training.
Data & access information
To enrol you on the course, Marine Pro Academy will create a user profile for you on the RYA’s online learning system. This requires us to share limited personal data (such as your name, email address and date of birth) with the RYA and their learning platform provider, solely for the purposes of delivering and recording your course. Full details of how your data is used and protected are shown when you first log into the system.
